home again

i'm out of sorts today - not sleeping well, pleghm, being behind and lots of other stuff makes me just like fuzzy. much like the focus on at f/1.8. one point is sharp and the rest vary from being completely blurred to having pretty shiny beads.

the girls are wonderful, funny, exhausting and beautiful. it never pays to try and match wits with a brilliant four-year-old so i often found myself at the short end. just suffice to say i watch way too much spongebob, hannah and olivia. the baby is a dear but has found her 'no' voice and has become a regular mockingbird. hmmm

i think i knew i was out 'manned' when i was proud of myself for bathing and feeding the baby with little incident and was in the process of getting dinner together for ga. as i found i'm not a multi-tasking mom sort, the baby covered herself in poo - panicked, i rushed her to the changing table just as the older one announced her tummy hurt. *eep* funny, when you're keeping children you find yourself saying sentences that you never thought would fall out of your mouth like 'then go sit on the potty and wait for me.' as i emerged from the stink of one, the other announced she only need to poot. *sigh*

but they are gorgeous and enchanting my little darlings. and the nephews are so adorable with them. my youngest nephew is a real ladykiller as both flock to him, begging for stories. thank god for my sister coming to help out some or i really would be insane. my favorite story (my sister swears i'm evil). well, there is background as it can be a daily struggle to convince ga to dress these days. yesterday morning was no exception as she tried to negotiage additional time in pj's to watch television. as the dog barked a visitor, she asked 'who is it' and i found myself saying 'i hope it's not your mommy and daddy' - i've never seen a child run sooooooo fast. but, she has a daily checklist of things to do and dressing without whining is one. is that evil.....or, just taking advantage of an opportunity? i think its so working girl and not my best friend's wedding.

but, it's good to be home and back in my environment. though all the kissing and cuddling was wonderful - i don't know how mommies do it sometimes. hats off to you mothers out there - you work your butts off don't you? question - why is it that the oldest child knows exactly which toy will get the maximum squeal from the baby when selected?

the pugs and cat seem happy to have me home.

  1. Wow, I'm tired just reading that. I am totally with you... I don't know how moms manage. Just a day at the zoo wiped me out!

Kids just run circles around us, don't' they?

  2. There are two sets of twins in my family. I am the oldest and the only "un-twin" One of the sets of twins are really close to me in age by a a year and a half. My mother tells a story about us being in the basement , getting into laundry or dish detergent and spilling it all over the place. Now you can imagine ho whard it is to clean up concentrated soap like that. Well as she was cleaning that up we were upstairs throwing Christmas bulbs down the hall to watch them break on the wall. :-) One thing it is amazing she didn't drown us in the tub and two I think this the reason they now make plastic Christmas bulbs!

  3. Were you singing "I Will Survive!"... I remember those days with my kids, like you, I don't know how I did it. Of course being 40 years younger probably helped! Grin!

  4. Glad you had fun with your family. I actually think it's more exhausting when they're not yours because you have to be nicer to them. As mummy, I can just tell her to quit it and NO! You have to be more smiley.

  7. Before I left work to have my first baby, I worked with 2 sales directors and a sales force of 25, all of them demanding and insistent.

And it was waaaaay easier than staying home, being mum :s

  15. What a wonderful thing to spend some time with little ones. They've been on my mind a lot lately, and it's funny how you change when you're around them, as you've said.

I hope you feel better tomorrow!

  17. I think after the day is over, you deserve a cup of warm coffee, lazing on the soft couch, with relaxing jazzy background music. And pat youself on the back, "well done, another day just came by". Happy mothers day!

  20. I agree, I think it's harder when the children aren't your own, but i's so nice that they have their aunt close by. The role of an aunt is so important I feel. – part mentor, part buddy, part sounding board and part baby sitter, with a role that’s somewhere between a parent and a friend. Sounds like you play that role well.

  21. Oh I think they probably LOVED having their aunt all to themselves!

My personal challenge came while I was simultaneously trying to explain to Poison Control Hotline how my son ate diaper rash cream (thinking it was cake frosting) while I was changing my daughter's nuclear diaper (failure of the containment vessel).

    Yup, motherhood ain't easy. ;)

  22. It was enough just having my two. But my mother had seven of us. Two sets of twins, too. To this day, I don't know how she ever did it. It's amazing, isn't it?
