grumpy winter

Pink this is the time of year where you're so worn down and weary with old man winter that you want to drop kick him back off to the frozen tundra from whence he came.  give him back the dull brown and gray landscape and tell him to pack up the dead branches.  take back the the dreary, gray clouds and send along the fluffy, cotton candy that brings the promise of spring.

and then you realize that it's not happening for another few weeks.  no matter how much the fat robins taunt you as they hop through the front yard looking for fat worms that haven't quite awoken from their slumber.  and yes, robins are horribly cute with their red vests....part of you is a bit irked that they are a bit early for the party.

and don't get me started on the tulips.  i mean they're my favorite flower and all that.  but do they have to be such showoffs? okay...okay...okay, maybe that is what keeps us all sane in february after all.  so forgive me if i'm a bit grumpy that they get to wear all the pretty colors while i have to hang out in blah-town.

do you think we could petition the daffodils to pass the hurry spring message along?

  1. OK...now, remembering us up here in Canada...we actually don't even see a Daffodil until late April...let alone a bird...Birds..what's that? I ahven't seen a bird since December...when I do believe they were ALL flying SOUTH...to YOU!...not bitter at all...but yes, please hurry Spring along. We have AT least another 8 weeks of this!
Have a lovely day...and thanks Char for brightening it with at least a beautiful, fresh, floral Spring photo.
    :-)

  2. hang in there kiddo. we're closer to the start of spring than the start of winter. i was just talking about tulips with ella on the way home. she wants to have a tea party this spring. and i've got the table planned out in my head already! maybe you'd feel a little better about being at home if you came up here for a couple days, got colder, then went home and it'd be like spring break! you'd have that heat wave you're looking for. maybe that's the cure for winter. instead of vacationing south, we should all vacation north...then when we come home it's like being in the south again! ha! i'm done rambling now. dirty kitchen calling.

  3. Here's my advice ... You mention that the tulips get to wear all the pretty colors while you're in blah-town. You've got to beat them at their own game, Char! Venture out to your local dept store and buy the brightest Spring tulip color scarf you can find, wrap it over your shoulders and wear your own touch of Spring often until the real thing comes along :)

my spring closet is looking pretty and colorful and light and winter can bite me as far as I'm concerned.....actually, I said that in a whisper because I'm a wimp and I don't want to piss off mother nature with my fowl mouth.....

thanks for the tulip photo....it's perfect in every way !

  16. Yeah, the crocus are killing me right now. Why do they have to be all pretty and make me think that it's going to be warm anytime soon?? Sigh. And living here in Portland, we're guaranteed rain through May. Bleh.

    Great photo, Char...as always.

  25. I think this is the worst time of winter, February. It's right now that you feel trapped in it and like it will never ever end. Beautiful tulips though...

  30. looking out my kitchen window last weekend i saw 2 male and 1 female robin, munching on the leftovers from my indoor birds (a conure, lovebird, and cockateil). they were quite the contrast against the four inches of snow on our patio table. aahhhh ... do i wish spring would get here quick!

i loved your post, witty and charming.

here's a toast to sunny skies and warmer weather!
    smiles,
