sunday things

  • i was so proud that i put film in my little camera and took several shots with it...and then i found out that the sprockets were ripped and none of the shots were made.  pooh (and lots of ugly words)
  • the patch of wild daisies was so beautiful yesterday and there was another field of brown-eyed susans and cosmos were starting to bloom.  i had to take a few home for myself (as you saw) but only a few - they were too beautiful not to share.
  • you will be glad to know, the cupcake was not very good.  i have a serious addiction to the buttercream of my youth and the cupcake was from the bakery where my childhood birthday cakes were made.  it just isn't the same and the cake was ultra dry.  they do however, still make the mint thumbprint cookies that i adore.  next time i'm sticking to those.
  • it's been an overcast day with flat gray light.  flat, flat, flat.  the kind of day where you wish it would just go on an rain.  i'm trying a few recipe for pork - i hope it turns out good.  *fingers crossed*
  • something is eating my dahlias...which is weird because they do not seem to like the zinnias.  but it makes me sad to see the brown little dahlia buds.  very sad.  i don't seem to be a great gardener.
  • my sister says i need to ugly up my portfolio some...i went out to find ugly pretty today but, nothing looked right.  i'm with the the light thing.  yep, *crossing arms* that's my story.

  2. How do you ugly up a portfolio? Sorry about your gray day. I understand how flat the light can be sometimes. Sounds like you had a Monday on a Sunday. I hate when that happens.

  4. What a bad luck the camera thing! It's one of those thing that if happen to me it would make myself totally crazy! Expecially if it's on a trip or something like that.

    For the plans, have you try with some spray against insects? I have a rose bush and a lot of ants loved it. I had to use it. Maybe it works for you too.. :)

    Love!

  7. Welllll, I'm pretty sure it would be hard for you to take an "ugly" picture, Char! ;-}

    What is the buttercream icing of your childhood? I have the Wilton one which uses only shortening, but when I'm making cakes for home, I use half butter, half shortening. Much tastier. Of course, the best is pure butter, but it doesn't do well for any fancy decorating.

    Check out this food blog for really good cake and frosting recipes:

  8. yes, the shortening one is what I grew up on. Susan - your frosting sounds like my friend Lisa's - she makes the very best cakes.

  9. let's just go to seaside and get a cupcake, okay ?
    even if it's dry, we'll be able to walk on the beach and laugh about it and throw pieces of it to the seagulls :)

  13. I wasn't sure about the Ugly either...but thought that might have been what she meant.
    I have had the sprockets rip on me too...back in the day. Hate it when that happens. Dug up my old Minolta 35mm out of the closet the other day and Daddy gave me some old film...just might have to try it out again. :) Could be interesting.
