reeling in the years

from top to bottom are shots from the same week of march for the last six years. in the first shot i have not yet decided that i wanted to persue photography - i knew i loved it, but this was taken with a now archaic kodak point and shoot.  because photographs were placed in our company's reports to the banks, the resolution was quite small.  i do remember this shot as it is one of the most beautiful sunset's i've seen from one of the most beautiful cities i've visited.  it's taken at the end of one of the piers on alaskan way in seattle, washington.  the restaurant was wonderful, the food was fantastic, and i loved it.

the next shot i had just purchased my canon rebel xti.  i didn't know aperture from a hole in the ground and i shot mostly on "green mode."  the next year, i felt more comfortable with my camera - composition - and exploring photography.  i started classes towards a certificate and began to develop a sense of my style.  the next shot, i learned more about macro photography and though i don't shoot it a lot, i recognize the talent of people that do a lot of macro photography.  last year, i felt more comfortable with how my style had developed and worked a lot on staging shots.  this year, i feel another change coming...i'm not sure yet what it is....but it's coming. this is the first time i've laid my photographs year to year to year to year.....i like the exercise and hope i can continue to do this.

  2. Amazing how you've evolved through the years...I see a difference this year...your eye seems to be seeing more beauty...natural beauty rather than industrial shapes and contrast...but I'm sure you feel something different.
It's cool to look back and see the changes.

I knew you'd be hooked on Pinterest...I LOVE it too.

    HUGS and HAPPY week ahead...

  9. i have done the same thing with my photos, but i am not brave like you to share them all....

some of my earlier photos were well, hmmm.....let's just say, not good. and now, for the most part, i'm so pleased most of the time.

and after having a taught a class in our photography group about aperture and spot metering and catch light and having people react like i was a rocket scientist....well, that boosted me up for at least another month or two :)

i can't wait to see what it is that you're feeling....how exciting !!!

  12. that's so weird - i was thinking of doing something similar just last night when i was looking through my photos for one particular image of mine. i thought about gathering one photo from the same day from years 2008 - 2011 to compare the growth in my yard at springtime. Your concept is more interesting - showing the growth of you as a photographer - it's exciting.

  13. Interesting exercise. I wonder what my line-up would look like. Hmmm... I'm really enjoying Pinterest too. It's pretty fun isn't it?

Spring seems a wonderful time for change. Enjoy your transitions, whatever they may be.

  14. Love this! I'm definitely not a photographer but I've done the same with my writing. The difference from book one to book three, is in the same light you're photography has grown over the years. You can see the visible improvement. (Hugs)Indigo

  15. i love this peek at the development of your photographic talents. i've been pondering a post of shots from the same day 5 years running, but now i'm split between four different iPhoto instances and it seems so overwhelming to find all of them...

i'm looking forward to what's next for you photographically.

  17. I just love the one you staged of the flowers in the canning jar--I need to improve on this part of my photography along with long exposure at night. Your whole series here is wonderful and you are very talented!

  18. I love seeing your years of progress. I have been taught photography in college...old school film photography! But this new digital age for me has been self taught. The use of aperture and exposure are still the same but how you go about adjusting for them on these new cameras...well can be a trick! What I love the most is the digital editing! That to me is an art alone! Thanks for sharing your progress and I look forward to your upcoming new style!

  19. You are an encouragement. I have never taken a class, and I still don't know the manual settings. It's a shame, really. Your work is just beautiful, some of my very favorite out here. The macro is gorgeous. More please? Well, you have to follow your heart. I love all your work.
