I have the wonderlust in my heart without the funds to support my drifting spirit. There is nothing better to me than to climb in my jeep and drive until I feel like stopping. Maybe reading a book under that tree. I like the solitude of traveling alone but have found good companionship also adds to the pleasure of the trip. Doing local things, eating local food and moving to the next place to repeat this again and again.

tripping lightly
"Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life."

...out of words...
I'm out of words today. All out of words. But spring is approaching - I will let Thoreau say it best, "As every season seems best to us in its turn, so the coming in of spring is like the creation of Cosmos out of Chaos and the realization of the Golden Age.*"
Time changes already this weekend...how did this come so very fast?

life is good
Tuesday is housecleaning day - I don't really know why, but I have fallen into the routine. There is something so simple and lovely about working together to get it all done. The smell of Murphy's oil soap, vinegar, lemons and other cleaning supplies are comforting and warm. The duster makes all surfaces clean and bright. The vacuum whirls and the Dustbuster gets all the nooks and crannies.
Slowly my household is being absorbed into the larger house. Bits and pieces of me are finding their way in. I had forgotten how beautiful a house that has light is ... especially when clean. We work together silently - each doing their natural strengths. It's good and happy. And in the end, we are satisfied.
Last night we cooked dinner for the family - making plenty to freeze for lunches and dinners over the next week or so. Dinner was warm and filling. The teenager ate and ate - like a growing young man is wont to do. It made me happy to see him filled. We laughed at television together. Life is very good when in the presence of family.

let sleeping dogs lie
It's morning here - crisp and cold. The dogs are snoring at my feet, happy and sassy basking in the sun rays slanting through the blinds. The television is on the Today show and I wonder why they are sitting around in Australian bush hats talking Rhianna and Chris Brown. I don't get it.
The smell of fresh cut lemons permeate the room as I had to taste a Meyers lemon to see what makes them so much more expensive than a regular lemon. It has a very mild taste. When I was a child, I can remember sitting and eating lemons with salt - all the time making faces as I enjoyed the intense sour taste. I remember my mom making me stop as she said it would ruin the enamel on my teeth.
I know I need to get busy - shower, dress, shop. I'm making dinner for my sister, her boys and one of my brothers tonight. I should call and see if the rest of the family wants to come over too. But the sun beckons me to sit more. There is always another cup of coffee to be had you know.

the difference

What a difference an hour can make in anyone's life. In an hour the world can shift on its axis and life as you know it will never be the same again. Of course we all know it's not even a hour at times, it could be minutes or a matter of seconds. That's why it's so very important to enjoy the moments as they come to you.
This morning the snow was beautiful and soft. The blue light coming through the gray clouds was something that I have not seen in a very long time. Possibly 1993? I'm not a snow girl - I don't really like it, I think it's messy and troublesome, and it keeps me from doing things that I enjoy. But today, I just loved the fluffy flakes drifting through the trees and loved looking at the drifts of snow piled on the delicate dogwood branches. And I especially loved sipping coffee and eating hot cinnamon twists my brother cooked for breakfast.
Now it's melted off and green again* - there are flurries in the gusting wind. By the end of the week it will be in the 70's again. This is spring in the south. Ever changing and surprising. March came in like a lion today and I suspect it will bring a beautiful Easter next month.
Hope you're having a beautiful Sunday.
*update: it's snowing softly again - this time not as heavy and it will not stick. But it's peaceful and lovely - perfect for this quiet Sunday.
