the ususual

what's been going on in your little world? i've been catching up with my reading - taking a day off is always interesting because it takes me forever to catch up with you.

the weekend was quiet - saturday night my sister and i went for a drive down to watch the full moon. it was beautiful and we had a good time talking about anything and everything. sunday was even more quiet really. i can't really tell you one thing that i did besides play with the still life shots that i showed you.

yesterday was the busy day - doing paperwork, washing clothes and errands. cooking for the weekly family dinner (now that the monday shows are no longer in re-run). i've perfected the broth for the pot roast to one can cream of mushroom soup, one envelope of brown gravy mix and one envelope of onion soup mix. add the roast and later in the day add any combination of veggies you like. nothing was left last night but a few carrots.

oh the high life i live, right? *chuckle* don't be all jealous now. the state fair starts this week though i seem to be the only person in the family that is excited about it. the one thing i've been looking forward too. so, i guess that means i have to decide if i want the shots well enough to haul a tripod around myself. even with the carbon fiber legs, the thing isn't lightweight.

so, i hope your week is off to a good start. mine is like the tortoise - slow but steady.

  1. Can you "shoot" the fair without lugging the tripod? sounds like a lot of fun,.. I only got to one fair this year. That's unusual for me. Have fun!

  2. Char, sounds like fun, it has been
many years since I have been to a fair. I came home a week early, but got some good shots of autumn there and back. today I am going to sleep, so my week will be slow start too. Take care my friend, always glad to see what you have been up to.

I'd imagine you'll get some amazing photographs at the fair, what a photo-op, definitely. Enjoy!

  4. Sounds like you're GOING to have a great week...I like it SLOW and steady...things seem to be CRAZY around here...hence the lack of posts on my side!
    Have a lovely day.

  8. that's my stew/pot roast recipe too...all in a crock pot making the house smell good all day....YUM YUM !!

and the fair...hmmm...I never use my tri-pod unless I want to be in the photo too...you must be using your zoom lens ? is it bigger than 300mm ?

I'd still go to the fair...no tripod...and use your macro for popcorn on the ground and "walking feet" shot at ankle level and then your regular lens for everything else....

I'd go with you in a heartbeat !!!

  12. Hey, Char. Could you write me and tell me how to cook that pot roast? I mean, if you have a moment? I don't eat much meat, but this sounds really good.

  13. The Fair. The Texas State Fair is on as we speak. Fried butter is the big talk.... I mean really that is pushing it too far... really.

I say take that glorious camera set up shop and let the pictures come to you.

    have fun.

  17. Take the tripod, and be glad it's carbon fiber. I love mine:). Is the State Fair late? I thought most were in the summer. Have a wonderful time.

  18. I'm envious of your time with your sister, I'd love to spend more time with my sister now that we are adults but with the distance between us (a whole ocean) it just won't happen. So count your blessings!
The same goes for a state fair, we use to go to the Kansas State Fair and I loved it..there is a charm in fairs that I haven't found here. They don't have fairs, no one winning blue ribbons for something home grown..miss that.
Life is moving along at tortoise speed here also, but it's ok..
    Have a great day!!

  20. I hate carrying a tripod but it is defiantly worth it for sharp shots.

    Have fun at the fair.

  22. Oh I feel your pain...don't you hate the burden of carrying around a heavy tripod?!? I used to take it everywhere but now I only use it when I do macro photography. Can't take a closeup of a bug's nose without it!
    ;)

  27. You make me long for a sister of my own to go on moonlight drives with. Oh, I could sure use a sister this week. Especially if she could be the kind who would roll up her sleeves and get to work beside me.
