i know that some of my friends use film and flatbed scanners....right?  care to make any recommendations on which one to buy?  i run windows vistas on my laptop, so it had to be compatible with that...beyond that, i'm stumped.

  2. we have a crazy scanner at work UMAX powerlook 1100. it is very big, and very powerful.

we also have a HP officejet pro 8500 copier and fax machine. it is pretty rad, as you can scan from it using a usb plug in thingie. it is super. and multi-functional.

  3. Char, I'd love to hear what you find out. I want a way to scan hundreds of slides and negs. It seems daunting, but I hate that those photos aren't digitized. It limits their use now.

  4. I have an older HP flatbed scanner. When we converted my computer operating system to Vista my son had a heck of a time finding drivers for it. Because HP had moved on to newer models of scanners there were no driver updates to use with it and Vista. Finally my techy sons found compatible drivers so the old but very usable scanner once again works for me.

What are you planning on using your scanner for? I've scanned my artwork, 3-D objects, leafs, flowers, my hands...old photos. Photos scan fine as long as the resolution is high and the original clear.

  5. ps You can scan slides if you get a scanner with a light above and below the bed. I want one of those too.

  7. we have an HP and an epson.....
the HP we have used forever and it's been great....the epson we bought just for pictures...both printing and scanning....and i'm not sure there's much difference between the two.

john scans old photos either onto a memory stick or straight from the scanner to the computer and thats how we make files of our old photos...

    does that help ?

  9. ...we have an HP scanjet which I don't use as much as I should...I have lots of old photos I want to scan but just never have gotten around to...When I have used it it seems to workd fine with my Windows XP I'm a bit intimidated by all the technical side of things...

  10. Are you just looking for a scanner? Or a printer/scanner combo? Anyway, last year I won an HP Photosmart 6380 (on Shutter Sisters of all places:). It prints wonderful photos and it's wireless! Though you can print photos wirelessly. Too much bandwidth I suppose. Anyway, it scans as well of course. I also bought one for work a few year ago, I think that one is a 6100 series and it's just as good. So overall, I recommend HP photosmarts. Drivers are huge though so do the custom install and uncheck the junk and just load the driver. I have pc vista but the drivers will run on any platform. Good luck!
