April 5, 2010

here's the thing

i've had a lot of time to think over the past few days - driving and flying alone with do that to a person.  my rather full heart tells me that i need to thank each of you for hanging in there with me over the past two years.  so...thank you.  thank you for laughing with me, crying with me, shaking your fist at the insanity of it all.  as writers yourself, i'm sure you know where i'm coming from when i say that there are a lot of days where you keep me grounded.  and by 'you' i mean the collective you of my friends in blogland.

it makes me want to buy a beverage of your choice at a local joint.

it also reminds me that i want to write better.  i've let my writing slack lately as i've let myself be consumed with the job and other stressors.  i'm sorry for that - just goes to show you how good a friend you are because you still read...*laughs*  i know you guys know that everyone has ebb and flow to their writing mojos.  i've lost some of mine - writing is one of those weird things that is the more you write, the better you are at it...however, it also seems that the more you write crap - the crappier your writing becomes.  so, that's on my list...practice writing again.  it's sort of a thing i've become aware of to the tune of 'physician heal thyself'.  i'm sure you can draw from that sentence whatever conclusions you want.  *smile*

somehow that is related to 'whatever you resist, persists.'

i hope you're having a beautiful beginning to april.  i've been surrounded with the glory that is april over the past week with the glorious sunshine and flowers of the spring.  my sinuses are going insane but i wouldn't trade the beauty for the world.

  1. Char, happy spring to you! How fitting is it that in the season of renewal you have come to some important affirmations to fulfill your creative ambitions. I have missed your musings. Take care my friend.

  7. I laughed out loud reading this, Char! I've been having a terrible writing day working on a new book project and having ugly doubts. Crappy writing breeds crappy writing--oh yes, it does. But while my writing this weekend has been crap, I hold out a speck of hope for the future. And you, my dear, are brilliant. Have no fear, we'll all be here to revel in your words and images. Hugs to you~ G

P.S. My verification word is "ingst." That must be the word for the angst a writer feels when she prints out a draft. As soon as the ink hits the page she gets a major case of ingst. Okay, bad, but I couldn't help myself!

  8. Char, I have always loved your writings, I think I need a drink. I can't seem to get my head around anything other than the sunshine. Sorry your sinuses are bothering you. Take care, I am sticking around.,

  9. I love your blog. You write wonderfully, but I understand wanting to be better. I struggle with how much of my life I should keep to myself and what I should reveal. I think I've become a bit superficial of late, so I'm trying to get deeper. Good luck!

  10. I find it so unfair that spring brings on sinus attacks, but, I wouldn't trade away flowers, either. They make the world magical. I'm glad I found your blog, because I love the photos you post, the beautiful flowers and your musings on life. No complaints here.
Another writer (the Storyqueen) said leaving a manuscript too long is like letting your tea turn cold. That hit me hard, and I'm trying to remember that, so I keep my writing warm, maybe even on fire. ;)

  11. Spring = Messed up sinuses...I totally understand. And I think you shouldn't be so hard on yourself about your writing. Life sometimes takes it's toll and we end up sounding/writing a little differently that we normally do. Your photos speak volumes anyhow. :)

And I agree My Farmhouse Kitchen...blog friends are the best. :)

  12. Char, I love your blog, your photo's, your musings. I love that you're always here, that you're not only open to expressing your thoughts, feelings and idea's but that you're also genuinely interested in everyone else too.

I find that when I let my heart speak openly, the words come easily but I struggle with that...how open do I want to be, how much do I guard closely? This aspect of blogging is a constant juggling...a balancing act.

And I'm so sorry that your sinuses are bugging you..spring brings it's challenges for so many, along with it's beauty.

Oh, and I'll have a Mojito!

  13. You know what? Even when you think you're at your lowest writing ebb, you're still flowing for us! So, if the time between posts is a little longer, it just makes the next one all the sweeter. We're all just happy that there's a reason behind all this and that you're happily and gainfully preoccupied with other things.

    And make mine a cosmo!

  14. I am on spring break and am staying with friends in the south. I don't have time to visit blogs this week but thought to stop in here to see what's happening in your life (because I like you). I wanted to tell you that of the entire drive here, coming through your part of the world was absolutely beautiful, Charlane. I can see why you love it. The redbuds were all abloom along the highway and the spring flowering trees in the morning dew . . . something I will always remember.
You don't have to post every day. I will continue to come here. Because.

  16. Hey Char..nice post...I am glad your heart is so full. Still I wonder what about you? I have read about your job, your family, your art, your art, your writing, but what of love? or is that a taboo subject? It is spring time you know! :-)

  17. I think we all are in a state of renew.

  18. ahhhh, ken...love is not taboo, i've just given up on it. fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me. *smile* i forget a lot of you don't know my old stories as i came here from myspace.

i'm always surprised when people find long lasting love as it's been my experience that is the stuff of fairytales. maybe sometimes i can share some of my old writings about love...that i've buried in my archives as drafts.

  20. you write very well.

writing takes a LOT of effort (more effort for some than others), so i don't really do it that much. it is true that writingj improves with time and effort, so i guess i should try and do it more often. sigh.

or i could just leave it to those that do it so well....like YOU!

  21. Hmmm, I think I'm in the mood for some lemonade, K? I absolutely know where you are coming from -- writing is HARD WORK! Right now, I just don't feel as though I have much to say, beyond "Yay, Spring!"

And I'm sure it shows in my blogging. lol

I will continue to come here, dear Char, because I love your images and your words -- whether they appear every day or only once a week... and because you are such a kind and generous blogging friend. Thank you for sharing with all of us!

  25. i enjoy reading your posts. practice does make perfect, even on the not-so-good days, which all writers experience (as you said). i've learned a lot here in blogland, and it's come from reading posts like yours...so please keep writing. that's the best way towards a win-win situation!

    smiles,

  26. Char, I love how you write what you are thinking and feeling...yes, a lot of bloggers do this but not nearly as well as you! You can't force creativity- it comes when it wants and leaves when it wants too! Just make use of it when you've got it and we'll all be happy!
    Happy Spring from Norway :-)
